Unforeseen incidents can happen with your pet that can lead to needing an orthopedic surgery. Here at Bradshaw Mountain Animal Hospital, we offer a variety of orthopedic surgeries. Orthopedic surgeries correct injuries and diseases of the bones, ligaments, joints, tendons, and other skeletal structures. Orthopedic surgery can give a dog or cat the ability to regain use of a limb that otherwise wouldn't be possible if left untreated.
Below is orthopedic procedures that our veterinarians perform
Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO)-This procedure is preformed when the CCL is torn. This procedure stabilizes the knee by leveling the tibial plateau and using a plate with screws. Shown in figure 2
Lateral Suture-This is a different procedure that can be performed when the CCL is torn. This procedure stabilizes the knee by "anchoring" the tibia to the femur with a specially placed suture. Shown in figure 3
Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO)- This procedure is preformed when disease or injury occur in the hip joint. This procedure removes the femoral head and neck of the femur to eliminate the bone-to-bone contact. Shown in figure 4
Medial Pattela Luxation (MPL)-This procedure is performed when the patella slips in and out of its natural position and stabilizes the patella to prevent luxation. The patella normally sits in the femur in a groove, but sometimes the patella can be pulled out of this groove causing luxation. Shown in figure 5
Fracture Repair-This procedure repairs broken bones by using plates, pins, or screws depending on the fracture. Shown in figure 6
Amputation- This procedure is the surgical removal of a limb. In some cases amputation may be the only option for a patient.
